Our Favorites: (Things to do)
Molokini trip - We go at least once every visit to Molokini. See cool fish, like this Moorish Idol, Marine life and beautiful coral.
Our favorite is the Four Winds charter. Tip: if you want to go to Molokini, watch the weather and plan for a less windy day. All charters don't guarantee the trip to Molokini - "weather dependent"(See Hot tip #4). If it is too windy they will take you to Coral Gardens, which is nice, but not the trip to Molokini. If you go on the Four Winds, go up on the Upper deck and sit on the left side of the Captain. That way you get a great view of the sun rising over Haleakala and Maui, good whale watching spot (in season) and a lot of sun shine. The Four Winds is one of a few that barbeques your lunch while you're out snorkeling. Unlimited beverages, too! UPDATE - we just went out on the "Maui Magic- Beyond Molokini" trip, it was great too! They are part of the same company, so you will see some of the same people.
Cheeseburger's in Paradise - On Front Street at Lahainaluna Road. For lunch/day time - We like to go up to the 2nd floor and request a table at a window ocean side, wait at the bar if you have to. Good to go for dinner and listen to live music. Just a cool place and not expensive either.
Visit Lahaina - We inevitably venture into Lahaina often. Lahaina is the historical center of Maui. It was the original Whaling capital of the world. There are 60 some restautants, art galleries, shops a plenty and the famous Banyan Tree across from the harbor and the Pioneer Inn. Check Visit Lahaina's web site for maps, calendar of events, etc...
Kaanapali Beach - Another spot we go at least once to snorkel at is Black Rock, lunch or dinner at the Hula Grill and shopping at Whaler's Village. Voted America's Best Beach for 2003 by Dr. Beach. Great for people watching, check out some of the top hotel destinations by parking at the Whaler's Village and walking the "Beach walk".
Kapalua Bay - Voted best beach in the world 3 times by Conde Naste Travel magazine. Spend the whole day there. There are bathroom facilities, parking, lovely beach and good snorkling for all - beginners to advanced! Directions from our condo: Go north on Lower Honoapi'ilani Road, turn left right after the Napili Kai. You will see a blue "Beach Access" sign.
Ironwood Beach - This location is not used by many people. You will find that it is a good place for boogie boarding, walks, and in season, whale watching.
Airport Beach - Also known as Kahekili Beach. This beach is located in North Kaanapali adjacent to the new Westin Timeshare facility. This beach has park facilities including restrooms, showers, picnic tables and barbeques. This beach is used by Scuba companies to do beach dives so you know that the snorkeling is good!! Lots of Honu (sea turtles) and coral formations to the right or north. In fact, the reef extends a couple of miles to the north.
Farmer's Market - Go to get fresh Maui grown vegetables, cookies, bagels, cheeses, sumptuous dips, inexpensive T-shirts, and fresh flowers. We prefer the one across from the Honokawai Beach park (green building) on the left side of the road coming from our condo. Open M,W,F from 7 am- 11 am
